Fish in Yoghurt

This is my mom's fish recipe, that I'm planning to make today. I am making it with halibut steaks. Ihope it turns out as well as my mom's. I'll serve hot rice with it.
 
This is my mom's fish recipe, that I'm planning to make today. I am making it with halibut steaks. Ihope it turns out as well as my mom's. I'll serve hot rice with it.
 

Ingredients:

600 gm pieces of fish
1-1/2 tsps salt
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp mustard powder
1-1/2 tsps coriander powder
3/4 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
2 tsp chopped ginger
2 tsp chopped garlic
5 tbsps oil (more may be necessary)
1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
1 green chilli, finely chopped
1 five cm stick of cinnamon
5 green cardamoms
3 cloves
2 medium onions, finely sliced
1 cup yogurt
3/4 tsp sugar
2 tomatoes, choped
3 tbsps seedless raisins (soaked in water)


Method:

Skin and wash the fish well. Mix 1/2 tsp salt with the lemon juice and smear over the fish. Leave for half an hour then wash off. Mix all five spice powders, the ginger and garlic with 1/2 cup water to make a spice mixture. In a large saucepan heat the oil and lightly fry the fish on both sides. Remove the fish and put it on a draining paper to remove the excess oil. In the remaining oil (used to fry the fish, you may need to add more oil)add the fenugreek seeds, chopped green chilli, cinnamon and cardamom. After 30 seconds add the cloves. After 10 seconds add the onions and fry till light brown (10 minutes). Add the spice mixture and cook on a low heat until most of the moisture has dried up. Then saute the spices for a couple of minutes more, stirring continuously. Add two tbsps water and cook for one minute, then pour in two cups water and simmer for 10 minutes, so that the onions soften and the spices cook properly. Turn the heat very low, add the whipped yogurt and stir continuously for three minutes. Add the sugar, tomatoes and up to one cup water, depending on the gravy required, and one tsp salt and stir well. Add raisins and put the fried fish in gently and cook for ten minutes.
